My phone contract is up in June and I’m already trawling the internet to find out what new features I can look forward to on my IPhone 5.
With Apple gaining some unfavourable press around the release of IPhone 4 it is crucial they got 5 spot on. As (almost) always, Apple have the spec locked away in a vault in California somewhere so everyone speculates wildly, here are a few of the most popular rumours.
- Screen size increases to 4″ by going edge to edge? – link
- 4G? Not sure this one is likely and not that bothered 4G looks a couple of years off in the UK anyway.
- IPhone Nano? Smaller, cheaper version so Apple can capture more of the younger phone users market.
- 3D graphics? Is the current trend for 3D coming to the IPhone? Not sure what the benefits might be so again not that bothered.
- Slide out Qwerty keyboard? Are Apple going to follow many of the other Smartphones and add a physical keyboard?
- 8MP camera? It’s inevitable they will have some improvement to the camera, whether it’s higher res or better flash or auto face recognition, we’ll wait and see.
- Faster Processor? Dual core? Quad core? I love faster processors but I’m thinking quad core might be a bit of overkill on a phone and imagine what it might do to the already troubled battery life!
- New OS? Is Apple ready to do the first major overhaul of the operating system which set the benchmark for all other phones when it was released in 2007? What about a new radial type interface that Apple recently patented?
- Facetime HD? Many users have been disappointed with Facetime, is this the improvement they’ve been waiting for?
- Near Field Communication? No need to carry your credit/debit cards any more, use your IPhone to pay for stuff.
- White? Will the white IPhone will be making a comeback?
- New casing? Thinner? Plastic or Aluminum back? Scratch proof screen?
- Integrated SIM? Now that Apple has finished its exclusive deals with providers they are keen to encourage users to buy direct from them, an integrated SIM could be assigned to whatever network you want at point of purchase.
- FM receiver, highly rumoured for the last few IPhones, could this be the one?
- Solar powered charging system? I think there’s probably as much chance of this happening as Glasgow having enough sun to charge a pixie’s wristwatch.
- LED projector? Don’t think so.
So that’s all the rumours for now, I’ll add more as they inevitably surface. Roll on June (rumoured date of release).
